INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 11, 2023) – Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Indiana Secretary of Commerce Brad Chambers today released the following statement after the joint venture of Stellantis and Samsung SDI announced a second multibillion-dollar investment in electric vehicle battery manufacturing in Kokomo:
“This announcement yet again exemplifies Indiana’s unlimited economic potential,” stated Chambers. “As a part of the 5E strategic vision I implemented as Indiana’s Secretary of Commerce, I focused on attracting first-of-their-kind investments in industries like electric vehicle battery manufacturing that will create positive, generational impacts in communities across the state like Kokomo and the surrounding counties.”
“The no. 1 job of a governor is to grow the economy. And I’ll bring that same strategic approach to the governor’s office to continue Indiana’s economic momentum and build an economy of the future,” he added.
As Indiana’s Secretary of Commerce, Chambers laid out and implemented a bold, strategic “5E” vision with a future-focused approach to economic development built around the economy of the future, entrepreneurship, the energy transition, the built environment and telling Indiana’s story through external engagement. In two years, that vision resulted in an unprecedented $33 billion in capital investment and record wage increases for Hoosiers.
